Prent Receives ISO Certification for Puerto Rico Facility

JANESVILLE, WI—February 5, 2008—Prent Corporation, the global leader of custom medical thermoform packaging, today announced it has received ISO 9001:2000 certification for Prent-Puerto Rico, its newest Class 100,000 cleanroom manufacturing facility in Yauco, Puerto Rico.

Prent has a long commitment to thermoforming under the strictest standards.  In 1993, its flagship facility in Janesville, WI, USA, was the first thermoformer in North America to become ISO certified.   Today, all Prent facilities around the world are ISO 9000:2001 certified, while its Shanghai and Malaysia facilities also have ISO 14001:2004 environmental certification.

“ISO certification is a key milestone for Prent Puerto Rico,” reports Joe Pregont, Prent President & CEO, who opened the facility just over one year ago.  “It’s official validation of our focus on the standards and systems our customers are looking for.”

For many years, Puerto Rico has been a magnet for some of the largest medical device companies in the world.  “Locating there is a win-win situation for us.  We’re near several of our major customers.  We’re able to take advantage of the island’s highly skilled workforce.  And, it offers us a base to serve Central and South America,” he explains.

Already Pregont appears to be making an impact on the island’s packaging industry.  “Our customers are telling us they appreciate our move to the island.  As our business continues to accelerate,” he says, “we plan to ramp-up our workforce and capabilities.”
