Prent Breaks Ground on European Thermoform Packaging Facility

JANESVILLE, WI—March 13, 2009-Prent Corporation, the global leader of custom medical thermoform packaging, broke ground on a new facility in Holbaek, Denmark to supply the packaging needs of European medical device manufacturers.

According to Joseph Pregont, Prent President and CEO, the company is expanding into Europe “to meet customer requests for global suppliers. Several of our current customers have expressed great interest in Prent completing the global supply chain. Our Denmark facility will give us direct manufacturing in Europe to meet the needs of global customers.”

Prent currently operates five thermoform packaging facilities around the world, including China, Malaysia, Puerto Rico and two facilities in the USA (Wisconsin and Arizona).

“The development of Prent-Denmark—like our other global expansion initiatives—has been through organic growth, not acquisition growth,” he points out. “This growth has been generated entirely within our own organization. Consequently we have a very defined effort when we open new facilities. Each contains identical all Prent-designed and manufactured thermoforming equipment and software systems. Therefore, our procedures and processes are all the same around the world. It not only gives us great control over the entire thermoforming process, but ensures great consistency to our customers around the world.”

Pregont expects construction will be completed on the new building by late 2009. “Prent-Denmark will be a comprehensive design-through-production thermoforming facility, including capabilities for product development, design, tool engineering and tool building. The Class 100,000 clean rooms will contain Prent designed and built thermoforming equipment produced at our Machine Build Facility in Janesville, WI.”

Initially, product development will be supported from the company’s headquarters in Janesville, Wisconsin.

Peter Bay, Danish engineer and plastics specialist, has been hired as Managing Director of Prent-Denmark. Bay spent 15 years in the plastic industry including positions with the Plastic Federation of Denmark and WUPPI, a non-profit plastic recycling consortium of Danish plastic manufacturers.
