2006: Top SPE Thermoforming Award
Prent Corporation recently
walked home a winner at the 2006 Society of Plastic Engineer’s (SPE) annual
parts competition garnering the award for “Best Critical Barrier Package” for
the design of a Universal Catheter Tray for Enpath Medical.
“This award not only
honors our talented product development team, but also our manufacturing
division, who worked hand-in-hand to achieve the design and production
innovations introduced in this package,” says Joseph T. Pregont, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Prent Corporation, one of the world’s largest custom
thermoformers of medical and precision electronics packaging.
Over the years Prent has
earned numerous industry accolades for package design excellence including
eight prestigious WorldStar awards and over 50 other industry awards.
The design for Enpath
Medical’s Universal Catheter Tray offers the flexibility to be used for a
variety of products, plus saves the company money.
Prent’s design challenge
was to contain and protect a variety of catheters and dilators used during
surgery without the use of a retainer or protective tube. The product also needed to be highly visible
and easily removed by a physician.
The design solution
utilizes die cuts that encapsulate the product, allows for size variations,
enables easy identification and facilitates unlocking of the product.
Undercuts secure the
device handle and tubing; while five die cut fold-over flaps secure multiple
sizes of catheters and dilators.
The package is made with
recyclable .035 white high impact polystyrene with 10% modifier to provide
strength and durability.
